China finishes second at int' l chess tournament in Vietnam
Vietnam's top chess player won the men's title at an international chess tournament here on Friday, while three Chinese men ranked second, third and fourth.
On Friday, Chinese grand master Bu Xiangzhi tied with compatriot Wei Yi after 21 moves, finishing the second at the tournament. Defending champion Wang Hao from China ranked the third, and Wei Yi the fourth.
Vietnamese grand master Le Quang Liem on Friday defeated Ukraine man Bogdanovich Stanislav with 79 moves in over four hours. The Vietnamese player had seven points after five wins and four draws, and earned 13,000 U.S. dollars in prize money.
Saduakassova Dinara from Kazathstan won the women's event, with Stefanova Antoaneta from Bulgaria and Li Ruofan from Singapore finishing second and third respectively.
A total of 240 players from 25 countries and regions took part in the tournament in Ho Chi Minh City from March 8-17.
